Unless a set is over 100 years old, they are not worth more than $1.00 per book, even in perfect condition. You could try to sell them on Ebay or Craig's list, but don't be surprised if they don't sell. The library I work at won't even accept them for our annual Summer Book Sale, as they just are not in demand. Everyone looks stuff up on-line anymore, and it is more up-to-date information than old encyclopedias. But if you can't find somebody who wants them, at least recycle them...don't just throw them in trash that fills our landfills.
They aren't worth very much:

Since many people rely on the internet for information, the demand for these has declined. Unless they are a first edition, over 100 years old, or were signed by someone famous they are worth virtually nothing.
At this time, this collection will only bring up to $40 , through a collector. Only antique ones , that are around 100 years of age would bring in a better price and are considered collectable at 100 years or older.
