I have volume 1-4 of the set in decent condition and was wondering how much they are worth.

Search on Amazon. If you do not find them they are probably not worth anything. If you do find them and want to sell them, you can set up an account on Amazon and sell them as a set or individually.
I see entire sets of encyclopedias everywhere. People use the internet so they don't need them any more. Hope this helps.
Might there be a local historical society that could use them - donation. Rather than trash 'em.
