I have a Capehart record player/8 track/Am/FM radio/microphone system. Can someone please tell me how much this can be worth? It doesn't have a date on it, but the model # is 42k5r/r. The record player works. The radio works. Speakers sound like they are in great condition. I just don't have any 8 tracks to test the 8 track player.

They are asking in the $225 range on eBay
Ok.i tried to look it up by model number but I can't seem to find this exact one..i don't even know the exact year. But thank you so much for your reply
I found some neat history about the company a while back. There are two links:
www.radiomuseum.org/
Since 8 tracks did not come out until the early 1960s, yours could be anywhere from the mid 1960s to the 1970s when the name totally vanished from the electronics scene.
These are not big sellers in today's market (at least not in Pittsburgh and from eBay it appears no in many other places either.
I see people asking a lot, but I have seen very few actually sell. I have not seen your exact model either, but that is not unusual. Most sellers have no clue to list by a model number and just give vague info like Capehart console.
The last similar to yours console (in size and general style) I saw sell was on a private auction site I frequent. It was in fair shape and sold for $26 (USD).
These are hard to sell because it needs to be local pick up and it needs to be the right person at the right time at the right price. Hopefully you are in place where there is a huge demand and a low supply and you can fetch more for it than the one I saw.
That all said, there is a huge market for the parts if they work and can be proven tested.
Put Capehart parts into eBay sold search engine and on any given day you can find motors, knobs, name plates and such that are selling for decent money--making it worth much more for parts than as a whole.
This is because people who love them want to keep them going with original parts.
Just a thought.
Thank you so much for all that info. Yea.im trying to sell it but it doesnt seem to be a hit where I am. It is a shame because my stevie nicks record played great on it and the radio gets in so many channels.i blasted it so the speakers are in good shape.i just can't test the 8 track.i love the classic things but I am in need to sell thungs at the moment.
Happy to help. I had one more thought.
Where I am the season is slowly winding down, but if you have a yard sale or better yet, take it to a large flea market, one where you can get an electrical hook up, you could always have it playing, put a $150 or best offer price on it and take the best offer. It will be a conversation piece when it is playing. Young people will have no clue what it is :)
Maybe someone there would want it for its coolness or could have the ambition enough to take it apart and sell the parts!
The last thing I wanted to add is some artists like the console boxes and they do Flea Market Flip projects with them like turn them into bars or dog beds or other cool things.
Take care and good luck with your sales!
That's a good idea..ill try that..its a shame because it is in such good shape..even the wood..i already have a good record player /radio so I hope this Capehart goes to a good home, or i may have 2 record players..i have no room for the poor thing;)
Post back how it goes! Eventually the market for all things old and cool will come back. Too bad you can't hold on to it until it can fetch more.
