Granite State Reel Mower? On eBay it sold for $35 + $75 shipping last month.

They usually sell for about $60.
Best way to determine value is to find an EXACT match to your mower either on eBay or on another auction site's SOLD section.
Never use asking price as value as people can ask whatever they want. Value is, to me, only what someone will actually pay in today's market.
The exact match (style and condition) are critical to setting a value. If you find the exact match and you have one that is in bad shape and you are comparing it against a pristine one, you will need to figure at least 15-20%k if not more, off the value for the one in poor shape.
This will tell you today's current market value.
Market value changes daily in today's internet world and is based a lot on supply and demand.
If you are trying to sell one, once you have a value, wait to list it until there are no others on sale at the time so the supply will be low and you can get the value or maybe even a slightly higher price.
If you are trying to buy, wait until there are a bunch of them out there, find the one that best suits your needs and see if you can make a lower offer on it.
Remember if you are trying to sell it, value is different than profit.
If you are trying to sell it online your profit will be the VALUE (selling price) minus all the fees. Be sure to factor shipping in (preferable have the buyer pay it--but you need to make sure you package it correctly and have all the right shipping info in eBay at the beginning of the sale or you will end up losing money on the deal as this will be an oversized package with a balloon rate to ship.
Hope this helps get you started with a value!
here's an interesting article about said mower: hsccnh.org/
"The company was purchased by William S. Howe in 1911. Under his management Granite State Mowers gained a national prominence. By the 1950s the firm was making hand and power lawn mowers which were shipped to all parts of the world. The company last appeared in business directories in the 1960s, thus ended more than a century of manufacture for Hinsdales Granite State Mowers."
so that explains why I'd never heard of it before, one would expect it would be wortk something as an antique because of its history
in fact this granit state box theyare asking over $100 for and its not even the mower www.ebay.com/
and I also saw a rare vintage granite state wrench for $20 www.ebay.com/
so it's hard for me to believe the actual mower itself is worth so little ($35) but I saw it above with my own 2 eyes - also I'm not seeing any for sale at the moment on ebay or elsewhere which makes me think it's rathr rare
i would probably take it to an antiquarian
