This was made July 15, 1977. It is worth from $175 to $225
There are many of these items listed online and people ask $175 to $250 for these chests. Just keep in mind the asking price is not what a person has paid for the item. Also keep in mind listing large items like this online you will be responsible to box this up and ship it off once it is sold.
It is worth 450.00.
While I am a fan of these pieces, the market for them has not kept up and most are sitting UNSOLD for as low as $25.
These are really supply and demand pieces and if you are in a place, like me, where the supply is exceptionally high and the demand is exceptionally low, they don't sell or sell for very little.
If you can, ask around (call various used furniture shops) and see what you would pay for one from a retail setting in your town. You can then set your price as 1/4 to 1/2 of retail and take best offer.
Your piece was part of the recall....Lane chests were recalled for latches locking small children inside and them dying. The recall affects products made from 1977 thru 2015.
I would either pop the lock out before selling or call the company that now owns Lane and see if they are still offering replacement locks:
Here is their info:
Call toll-free at 877-251-5010 and select Option 4, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT, leave a message after hours of operation
or
Send an email to LaneRepair@ufifurniture.com
or
order the free replacement latch and lock online at www.lanefurniture.com/.../product-safety.html.
Safety first!!
I have a lane chest identical with the same serial number? Thats strange right? Or does that mean they were made same day?
