I have a Mersman 4593, I/2 table and would like to know the value. I bought this table at a second hand shop and was told it was valuable. It is in good condition except for the top.

This is a nice table. It is worth at least $225. Check eBay at regular intervals and see what they are selling for.
Looks like a nice style table but not sure what type of damage the top has and that may/will reduce the overall value.
If you are interested in the history of the company you can read about it here.
The only way to get a true value is to find what others are paying for identical tables. If you bought it at a second hand store, I would assume the seller would have done the due diligence to find current market value of the piece ad priced it accordingly.
I wasn't able to find an exact match on eBay or the other big furniture auction sites to get you comparable value.
Just curious as to what you paid? I ask because that is probably the current market value of the piece in your area. eBay and other sites give you general US wide value.
Truly, value is only what someone will pay for an item. Books that give value to things are misleading. If a book say something is worth thousands, but no one will pay that much, the value becomes zero until someone is willing to fork over their hard earned dollars!
This is a neat piece and I hope you are like a recent poster to this site who bought a second hand piece for very little and was given a value of over $900 by an appraiser!
From what I know of this brand, I feel it may be an earlier piece, since it has lots of "gingerbread" ie. ornate decorative touches. Mersman is best known for their clean lined, sleek 1950s and 60s pieces, aka mid century modern pieces and styles.
I see this piece being much older than that... maybe early 1940s or older.
If you want more info, take it to a dealer and ask about insurance value. That will give you a replacement value which is always higher than retail value.
Please let me know what you learn! I love this brand and always want to know more about values in different parts of the country! Thanks for sharing!!
