This desk is at least 50 - 60 years old. It's a handmade mahogany desk made by Kensington Mfg. Co. in New York. It's in really good condition, but it's too big for our new reno. It's 54 x 30. There are brass handles on the drawers.

From what I have seen of this brand on eBay, the desk is worth in the $3000 range.
Wow! That's fantastic! I've never dealt with selling things like this. Can I ask for advice on what to do next? Would it be best to try and sell on eBay, or go to an antique shop and see if they'll take it on consignment?
Love this piece!!
I have not been able to find an example of one sold in the US or Canada so it is hard to put a value on it in today's market.. Only when you find a sold example is that the true market value.
Online stores are asking huge amounts for these on sites like Chairish and some of the other drop ship type sites (they ship internationally but it is hard to tell where the sellers are based). They have the capability to freight ship big items that regular people do not usually have access to and they build that huge expense into the asking price.
To sell a piece like this you are best served to find a good reseller in your area (a store or auction house) and have them handle the sale for you. They will take a commission, but they do all the work and get you the most exposure so you can get the most money for it. You will also not have to deal with people traipsing to your house to look at it (YUCK).
Also, if you try to put it on Facebook marketplace or a site like LetGo and you put the retail prices like I see out there (1-4,000 dollars US) you will be bombarded with scammers trying to rip you off. This happened to a family member with a violin. It was awful. He lost a lot of money and the violin...he was elderly and didn't understand the scam, then he was too ashamed to ask for help before it was too late.
The other thing is people who really do want something like this and are legit will pay a store a lot of money, but will not pay someone off the street. They don't want to be scammed. Such a sad world we live in right now.
Please post back with how your sale goes!! I hope you get what they are retailing for or at least close to it.
Neat old piece!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your help and advice! I really appreciate it! I will let you know how it goes. Im going to take the pictures to a couple of dealers here in town and see what happens!
