Value of a Webster's 1934 Dictionary?

I have a 1934 Abbot's Selected Webster's Dictionary of the English Language. The cover is messed up, but how much do you think it would be worth?

As of today the books aren't worth too much at all. Today they consider books 100+ years old have value. As for yours, they are still not old enough to be worth much. You have two choices. Box them up and keep them around for a few more years or you can try selling them off. You won't get that much for them if you try to sell them now.

Unless first editions or over 100 years old, these books have little to no value.

Most older books are purchased by collectors and the condition and appearance are their major concerns.

  • You say the cover is messed up which means it would not be of any use to a collector and that reduces the value to almost zero.

  • Some of these dictionaries sell occasionally and if in good condition can sell for $30-$60.
  • Almost all reference books are very slow sellers and some remain up for sale for many, many months (or even years) and most never sell for very much money.
  • There are always exceptions and the "right" person just happens to see a book they like (for whatever reason?) and may pay the asking price.
  • Here is a link to similar dictionaries currently listed on eBay which shows seller's ASKING price which does not reflect any actual selling price.
  • You might try listing your book on your local Craigslist with a price of $10-$15 and see if anyone is interested.

The Internet is so easy to use and having spell-check makes hard cover dictionaries obsolete except for collectors and an occasional seeker.
