I would like to ask if you know the value of this edition of a Webster Dictionary. I think is the 1847 edition a little bit after his death. I am not familiar with old book prices. The front page that says the publisher before the preface is missing. Also I cannot read the hand-written letters. I would really appreciate if anyone could type them down!
Thank you in advance.

Considering the condition of your dictionary, I would lean toward a very low value - slow selling unless you have some maps or other illustrations that are in pristine condition. Older dictionaries are not that scarce and yours appears to be in poor condition - cover and pages. Not many collectors and they want excellent condition unless there is something about it that makes it 'unusual'.
It's possible the inscription could mean something but I think it is just from a wife giving it to her husband for his birthday. Perhaps the name means something to somebody but I have not found anything that would verify that.
Since no one has tried to transcribe the inscription I have given it a little time and research.
Here is what I have deciphered so far:
Presented to my own Darling for
His Birthday Aug - 24 - 1914 - at
Boummouth the year the Horrible
War broke out & we were at Boummouth.
From His ever loving wife
Phillis
Oh Lord be though one Wu?? ???
I believe this is correct for the most part but others may see it differently.
This refers to a town/city called Boummouth but I cannot find a reference showing what that it still exists or if the name was changed.
The first link shows this soldier was in Boummouth at one time.

"Goodrich's New and Revised Edition appeared on 24 September 1847, and a Revised and Enlarged edition in 1848, which added a section of illustrations indexed to the text."
Perhaps someone else can help you further.
Should you decide to try and sell your book, you should be sure to show any maps or illustrations as this will be what may sell.
The book is very old and in somewhat good condition. I would go to an auction house that deals in books like this and get an appraisal on this. There are many people who collect books like this and they would have the best information about the book and what the true value really is. Finding values for books like this online is not what the book is really worth.
Abe books shows a value of $350, but it is in pretty good condition www.abebooks.com/
it is sorry that this one has not fared so well
