Value of an Antique Chest of Drawers?

Value of an Antique Chest of Drawers - dark finish chest of drawersI am just wondering if anyone knows about old large chest of drawers/dresser that came from my nan's own mum's farmhouse! It's 3 long drawers and 2 smaller to make the top! It as key holes in each drawer, but sadly no key! The wood could be mahogany or oak (but could be another wood).

All of the drawers are made using what is it called dove tails, obvious that no nails, etc. been used. The legs are like a big carved wood ball with smaller piece coming down attached to castor. I know my nan once got offered £4000 for it, but that was years ago. I know a lot of furniture as now lost its value. But I thought I'd check as it's too big for our house and just doesn't fit with my decor.

I've kept it few years as I didn't want to just throw it out as it was big part of my nan's life when she was a child growing up on the farm. It's so roomy and it gives me so much storage. I don't think you can buy anything new these days which as been made so well and is so spacious! Does anyone have any idea what I'm on about? If so any advice on if it has any value, etc. would be great. And it's age, etc. if possible would be lovely?
Thanx all.

It is a beautiful piece and good quality if it has dovetailed drawers. Look for a manufacturers mark underneath, behind or in a drawer. It will help you date it and value it. You can also take the pictures to a dealer.

It is lovely. I believe it to be burled walnut.

In the US they usually sell for $100-$150 as "brown" furniture, even something as lovely this is not popular in many parts of the country.

Since you are not in the US, you would be best served by contacting a reputable antique/vintage dealer to learn what they are valued in your area.

Last year when I was researching this topic, "brown" furniture was still very popular in many countries--especially in the UK. I found some similar pieces that here (where I am in Pittsburgh, PA) would fetch next to nothing, were fetching into the high hundreds in UK shops.

Post back what you learn! This is a lovely piece of art and workmanship!! I wish people around here still valued it!
