It is worth what someone will pay. In my area they are being given away. Look who manufactured it. The name of the company can be found underneath, behind or in the drawer. Then look for sold items on eBay.

What a lovely piece!! It has a 1940s vibe to it!

Where and how much these sell for are very regional, especially in the US. Where I am, in some circles they can sell for upwards of $500 (retail from a shop). I have friends who are about 50 miles away and they can't give the pieces away there because it is a much older community and everyone is trying to sell theirs so there is a glut which drives prices down.

If you have a number of vintage furniture dealers in your town, I suggest calling one of them and asking how much you would have to PAY if you wanted to buy one like this. This will give you the retail asking price in your area.

Then you will need to decide if you want to sell it yourself or have a store sell it for you. Having done both, with the bigger pieces, I prefer to have a store sell it for me OR do a buy out from me (where they pay cash on the spot). With the latter, you may get a little less, but it removes the muss and fuss of trying to sell it on your own and having the person who buys it have the right equipment to get it safely from your home.

If you sell it to a dealer or have the dealer sell it for you, usually they come in and carefully remove the piece. They have the right tools and equipment so even though I get less money, I have less hassle. At this point, I always go with less stress.

If you do sell it yourself, I can almost guarantee you will not get a "retail" value for it because people are looking for bargains. You can use retail is a starting point and bargain to the middle of the low ball price someone will offer.

Post back with what you decide.

Thanks for sharing this gem!!

You have an unusual cabinet.
I believe it could be called a hutch, a china cabinet or even a curio cabinet - if you should decide to sell it.
From the picture it has an unusual finish - difficult to tell the true color or if it is dirty and needs cleaning but I would not recommend doing anything until you obtain more information.

If you have some antique dealers in your area you may be able to show them a few pictures and someone may be able to supply a company and/or age as well as a value. Of course, they may not give you a true value if they are thinking of buying it.

I agree with Pghgirl about the area being so important to value as I live in Florida and these are not very popular - everyone seems to be in smaller more modern 'useful' cabinets (not too many even keep 'china' anymore).

Since I am not into this type of cabinet, I would not dare to guess if it is of value or just another white elephant so I would think you should find out for sure before you decide to sell. It is always best to know value before you sell than to find out after a sale.

There are several very good free appraisal sites online that usually supply a lot of information about items like this.
If you wish to ask about your cabinet, I would suggest you look inside drawers and on the back to see if can find any marks, names or numbers. If you find anything, take clear close-up pictures as any mark can mean something to an appraiser.

You will need several pictures of the cabinet; full front, side and back.
Always check your pictures so you know you are seeing the same thing you want someone else to see.

If you can obtain more information you will be able to put a true value price when you list your item for sale.
You can list on eBay (local pick up only) (but final fees will be high) or list on other local sites such as Craigslist, OfferUp, LetGo, FaceBook Marketplace or any other you use. These can all be local pick up only with no shipping involved.

I hope you find that you have a valuable jewel.

Thank you for your reply. It was painted long ago, something that was the style at the time. I would like to have it refinished back to it's natural wood but will look into the cost of this and whether it's worth it if I'm planning on selling it.

Refinishing a piece this size will probably be expensive so you are wise to check on value before spending that kind of money (if you plan to sell).

I hope you will try your luck with 2 or 3 of the appraisers as they usually provide really useful information and they can probably tell you if it would be worth the cost of refinishing.
Be sure to look for any markings or numbers.
