Value of an Old Armoire?

Value of an Old Armoire - old light, plain wood armoireI am curious as to what my solid wood, oak I believe but I am not certain armoire is worth. It's extremely heavy. I'd guess its weight to be around the 200 lb mark, possibly more. I'm about 5'7 and my hand barely reaches the top. It has a lock and key and is also on wheels to move easier. I bought it a few years ago from an older gentlemen in the country for a very good price!

This is a neat piece! It has mid century modern looks to it--50s, maybe late 40s or early 60s.

I am guessing this based on the lines and simple design.

What does it look like inside? Drawers or converted for TV or hang bar?

Where I am in Pittsburgh these things are a dime a dozen and sadly no one wants them. You would have to pay someone to take it away, which I find a travesty!

In other parts of the country, they can fetch in the low $100s to the low $500s (but it is all dependent on condition, original state (so if it was converted to a TV cabinet, it devalues it), if it has a good brand name like Austinsuite--which should be stamped on the back) and if someone can deliver it).

In other countries, from what I understand, where space is limited, these are in more demand because they substitute for closets and can fetch up to $1,000 (if we talk US dollars).

So my suggestion is to find someone in your area who has a resale shop or a consignment shop and get them to give you a selling price and then have them sell it for you.

They will have the ability to get it to someone (which most people don't have) and if you are in place where the value is high, people are much more willing to pay a store a tidy sum, than you or me off the street selling it.

Post back what you learn!! Thanks for sharing this lovely piece!!

It looks like a 50s piece to me. You need to know who manufactured it. Look on the inside, back and bottom.

In my area there is very little demand for brown furniture. I hope you have better luck.
