I have a Gemco catalog from 1958 in which your mower was listed new at 180.95. It was the "New, Advance Design 1958"
It was the 24 inch Deluxe Gemco-Reelrider. It boasted a 2 3/4 horse power 4 cycle Briggs & Stratton engine.

As you suspected, General Mower Corp of Buffalo N. Y. was the manufacturer.

It is a neat piece!

When I want to learn more about history, I go to Google Images and look at the old advertisements:

www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1&biw=1366...

When I go to value the item, I only look at eBay or other auction sites SOLD auctions that tells me what people pay.

I don't see any on eBay at the moment, so you may want to check back frequently to find a sold one that is exactly like yours.

The other thing I tell people about value, is sometimes pieces like yours are actually worth more for parts...meaning if you are handy and take it apart, each part may collectively add up to MUCH more than you would get from the whole.

This is because people have these items and want to repair them or restore them with original parts.

Just a thought!

It is almost impossible for us to place a value on a vintage mower especially if it is a generally unknown brand. Vintage mowers such as yours may be a collectible item or it may just be an old mower but without some sort of online history in sales we may be at a loss to help you.

  • This link gives a good overall description of this mower but we have no way to verify the statements and no way to find out how much it sold for as the listing is too old.

  • gardensgeek.com/.../
  • Here is a later listing of a Glenco that did sell but it is a much later model than yours. But it does appear there is a general interest so that is a good sign.
  • The biggest problem with any of these listings is they are generally always listed as "pick up only" which means the buyer is in the general area as the seller.
  • This means that if the mower was listed for sale in another city/state the mower may have sold for more money or it may not have sold at all.
  • Just take a look at the listing as listings generally always provide a little information that you can use.
  • The overall condition of the mower (is it working?) will have a big impact on the value and in the case of a vintage mower, there will never be 2 mowers in probably even similar conditions.

  • Here are some links to sites that have forums and many of these answer questions about vintage mowers but may not have a way to give a current value. You may have to join the site to ask questions but it is generally free to join.
