I wouldn't call the recipe "completely vegetarian" with mayo and cheese in it.
Editor's Note: Vegetarian meals often include dairy and eggs. Vegan would not include any animal products.
To make it vegan, use vegetable oil-based spread instead of butter, and soy-based (tofu) mayo and cheese.
In Step 2, you write, "in the butter mixture." What is the "butter mixture"? Is it just plain butter, or was a step left out? Thanks.
In Step 6, you wrote, "Let it cook slightly...then enjoy!" Do you mean, "COOL slightly"?
Editor's Note: We have fixed the typo in the recipe.
Sorry folks. You are all correct. It Isn't totally vegan, just vegetarian regarding no meat.
When I said butter mixture I meant with the veggie mixture and finally I typed cook instead of cool, which I meant.
Thanks, Donna for the quick reply. It sounds delicious and something even I can cook. Can't wait to try it this weekend. It also seems like a recipe with a lot of flexibility, i.e. I can substitute with whatever veggie is on sale, and maybe replace the mozzarella with cheddar if I want something tangier, or even add some ham for non-vegetarian friends. Happy Holidays!
