For minor burns, such as steam burns in the kitchen, after running cold water on the burn, you can put Vicks Vapor Rub or a similar product on it and it will take the sting/soreness out of the burn!
DO NOT do this for serious burns, or before you try the cold water to stop the burn from going deeper. It only takes a tiny bit, but it really works!

I hate to disagree, but I believe that the preferred treatment for any burn, and especially minor burns, is to put nothing on it.
I just Burned my hand taking.
A pot out of the oven I put some Vicks on it after the cold water
And the Sting is gone --ITS
works. Im Happy.!!!!!
I was like um, burn, what burn? Jk lol.. just tried it. it works also leaves you glistening..
Yes. I said not to do this immediately. If you put anything greasy on a burn directly after it happens it will actually make the burn worse. This is why preferred first aid for any burn is to run cold water over it, or to treat it with ice.
I grabbed a stainless steel frying pan handle straight from the Oven! I forgot that the oven was on, very stupid! I had my hand in ice water for more than 3 hours, the bad sting was still there, I googled Vicks and saw all the amazing testimonies , IT WORKED
thank you Vicks
I heard on YouTube to the Vicks help for the burn I was just double-checking and I already did run it under cold water for about an hour and I just put the Vicks on it and it did stop the sting said regardless of what people think it does work and thank you Merry Christmas
Being a daughter of an EMT and sister of a firefighter, I have NEVER heard this. Go by what has been directed by 911 if you can, or use this guide from the Mayo Clinic:

It actually does work! I just put this on my sons hand after he burnt it spilling hot water on it. After an hour of cold water and ice he was still crying it hurt. I put vapo rub on it and he has calmed so much and keeps saying its like someone is blowing cold air on his hand. So just because of your training does not mean that something different cannot work.
I burned my pinky finger from a plastic spoon that melted on the burner and after running it under cold water trying to get the melted plastic off my finger it was stinging really badly, I read about applying Vicks vapor rub and I'm glad I had that at home and after about 20 minutes I was able to put a finger bandaid gently around it an finish typing my work. It definitely stopped the sting. Thank you for your post I'm so grateful.
Yes that's true. Vicks vapor rub is very useful for many health related issues. For headache, back pain. Burns , dry skin itching etc .
I just tried Vicks on a minor burn (fry pan) and it really does work ! Almost instantly ! As you mentioned .. not for major burns and run cold water over it first.
Had a steam burn and was still hurting after ice pack on and rubbed a little Vicks on and instant relief from the pain! Amazing
I've had a burn from a tyre press at work so I obviously used cold water for 20 mins and when I got home I put some vicks vapour rub on burn .4 days later the burn had practically disappeared
It's very true,I grab a pot handle from a pot I took out of the oven.. and went to move it afew seconds later in a hurry...forgetting it was the hot pot..
