I was waiting in the doctor's office the other day, and I read about how brushing your teeth after drinking or eating grapefruit, orange juice or other citrus juices will push the acid into your teeth and wear away the protective covering.
It is best to wait about an hour after eating citrus food or drinking orange juice or grapefruit juice to keep from damaging the protective layer of your teeth.

I beg to differ on that. A recommendation for people who are unable to rinse or brush immediately after eating is to take a piece of sugar free gum and chew it for 20 minutes to help eliminate any food particles as well as acids from food.
EXAMPLE: This is why drinking a soda pop over the course of an hour is worse for your mouth/teeth than drinking it immediately. Your exposure to the acids that eat away at teeth having time to set on the surface will ENSURE your need of dental care.
Watch your pet eat. They eat, then drink. To clear their mouths. They don't need to be told like humans do.
