My best success in fighting slugs has been making a two week commitment in early spring. I use a bucket of soapy water and some rubber gloves. Every evening at dusk I go around the yard gathering slugs and dropping them in the bucket. For the rest of the season there wasn't much of a problem.

That sounds like it would work but recently, at a garden club meeting, our speaker, a retired County Extension Agent, said to put squares of cardboard down in the slug infested areas at night and in the morning, when the sun gets warm, the slugs will be staying cool on the undersides of the cardboard.
I used crushed egg shells around the plants the slugs bother. Works wonders! Just crush the shells and put around the stem sections on the ground.
