Warning: Coconut Oil and High Blood Pressure

Coconut oil has been in the nutrition buzz for quite a while now. It is awesome for the animals and I keep it on hand for them. But, I have hypertension. I can tell you that just a little of this, even just as a lip balm, can send blood pressure skyrocketing to a dangerous level.

I remember the several months back my hands were dry and I was using that to moisturize my hands. I also put it on my lips for a lip balm. It was couple of hours later when I had developed such high blood pressure, that I could barely walk across the room. My thinking was that it would not affect me if I didn't consume it, but it did, it absorbed through the skin.

Just a heads up on the whole coconut oil thing. You should not use it if you have high blood pressure. On the other hand, people with low blood pressure can use it with no problem.

Thanks. About the high blood pressure; I have a couple of jars of coconut oil and have been using it sparingly. I noticed my bp had gone up. I guess that is another healthy thing I cannot use. I miss grapefruit and juice because of the medication said not to use it.

Thanks for the extra information.

I could not have coconut oil be thought to be bad in any way so I searched on the web and it didn't take me but a second to find the professional proof I was searching for.
Parts of this article is from the WorldHealthNet website. I hope this helps relieve any confusion.

Heart diseases
There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for the heart. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats. However, coconut oil is beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. The saturated fats present in coconut oil are not harmful as it happens in case of other vegetables oils. It does not lead to increase in LDL levels. It also reduces the incidence of injury in arteries and therefore helps in preventing atherosclerosis.

The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application of coconut oil."

Not all coconut oils are the same. You must use extra virgin organic coconut oil. If the label does not say that, it probably was highly processed as are the other oils in the supermarkets and can inflict a lot of damage on all of your body. I purchase mine online at Tropical Traditions and have been using it over a year with no problems.

Your high blood pressure could be caused by an overload of carbs (bread, bakery, sugar) and use of the canola, veg., corn, etc. oils and shortening. Try extra virgin olive oil, home- rendered lard and organic butter along with the EV coconut oil.

Not the case for me. I took a teaspoon of coconut oil on an empty stomach and 15 minutes later I got the biggest headaches because my blood pressure got extremely high. Same thing happens when I eat pop corn cooked in coconut oil.

I had a problem when eating coconut oil, when I got a massive headache. When it did start to go, I looked at the ingredients, and it wasn't pure, organic or raw, having what I would call a chemical (not natural smell).

I wen to another shop, purchased a raw, cold-pressed, organic coconut oil, have a teaspoonful by adding it to my porridge once every few days, and I am ok, my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc is normal.
