I have a Kenmore washing machine. It will fill with water, but then will not run through the cycles. When I disconnected the hoses the hot water screen was filled with black stuff.
If the lid switch in your washing machine goes bad, the washer will think the lid is in the open position. This will cause the machine to not do anything after it fills with water. If the lid switch is bad, having the lid either open or closed will make no difference. If the washing machine has power, has filled with water, then stops, makes no noise, then the lid switch is most likely the part that needs replaced.

You may also have a timing problem, which is causing the machine to not advance to the next cycle.
I have a front load Frigidaire washer, model FTF2140Fs1. Water runs into the basin at the start of cycle, then it doesn't do anything. The water does pump out. I cleaned coins out of the pump and also changed the door switch assembly and all this still did not fix the problem. Help.
