I have just finished a stamped cross stitch pattern, now I want to wash it to remove the stamped pattern before wrapping it for a gift. What can I use so the floss colors won't bleed on the blanket?
I hand wash my cross stitch items in cool water & Woolite or a gentle washing detergent. Lay the fabric in the sudsy water & gently push it up & down a few times or until the stamping is removed, then rinse in cold water until all the suds are gone, DO NOT squeeze or wring your piece. Hang it up, I drape my piece over a plastic hanger with the wrong sides facing each other or use clothes pins until it stops dripping then lay it face down on a color-fast fluffy towel, lay another color-fast towel on top & using a hot iron, iron over the top towel a few times to remove some moisture from your piece, remove the top towel & continue ironing on the back of your piece, moving it onto dry parts of the towel, blocking as you go, until it is dry.Using a fluffy towel stops your cross-stitching from flattening.
Thank you. I followed your directions and my stamped cross stitch turned out perfectly! BTW, I used woolite.
I obtained a 30 some year old cross stitch that my mom made w stamped parts that was not framed under glass. It is dirty and has a few stains. How best to clean it so the stamped parts dont come off? The stamped parts are words and the border to the project.
