Several years ago, I was introduced to a site that has information on how to obtain money that you may not be aware is due you. I have helped numerous people recover money over the years and thought maybe there might be someone on Thrifty that could benefit.
This money can be from old insurance policies, refunds on utility deposits, forgotten paychecks (yes - people do that!), refunds on mobile phone accounts, etc. There are too many sources to list.
The site is very easy to use and everything is completely free as this site takes you to your state and you just put in your name (or names that you have used over the years) and go from there.
The biggest problem that I have found is that you must have some way to prove you actually lived (or received mail) at the address given. This can be a problem as this money will be from years ago - nothing recent.
If it is a lot of money you can hire an attorney to help you.
I do not remember all of the legalities, but companies (and IRS) must hold on to this money and must make it available (by law) after a certain period of time.
It is fun to just look up anyone's name - just to see if they are due money they may not know about. Tell your friends and relatives!
There are people who search these records and then contact the person named and tell them they may have money and then "offer" to try and get it for them for a percentage of the "found" money. This can be good or bad so be careful of someone offering this.
Here is the site: (there may be other sites)
