West Bend 4065 Bread Maker Locking Up and Not Kneading?

My bread maker, a West Bend 4065, is locking up and not kneading. The motor is trying, but the paddle won't turn. (I baked a loaf yesterday...no problem.) I took the bottom plate off and managed to make the cog turn. It then functioned enough to finish the loaf. This has happened before. The belt is not broken. Do the gears need oil/grease? I have had this unit many years, but it only gets used 1-4 times a year. I would like to use it more.

You could put some food-grade mineral oil on the gears, and see if that helps.

Since this has happened before (?) do you not remember how you got it to working properly?
Not all bread makers are supposed to need oil so maybe West Bend will answer your question.
