What rooms are you finding these bugs?
Are you seeing just one occasionally or seeing more and more?
You say they are black and shiny - these look like Oriental Cockroaches to me.
They could be in their early nymph stage, but they will be full-grown in a short time.
"Oriental cockroach nymphs appear extremely similar to adults of their species. Female nymphs are broader and heavier than male nymphs. The nymphal stage spans approximately one year, during which time Oriental cockroaches molt several times."

You really need to take care of this problem as they multiply rapidly.
Here is an excerpt from one university site:
"Oriental cockroaches can cause additional problems. They transmit bacteria such as E. coli and salmonella, taint food with pathogens, and excrete odors that are problematic for people with allergies and asthma. If an infestation is suspected, take quick action to get rid of and keep the pests out."

I have located some sites that have several suggestions on where to find 'nests' and what/how to kill them.

Very Important:
Bug pictures on these sites are very graphic, so be sure you are ready to view this type of picture before you check the link.
I would strongly advise anyone to NOT check these links just before going to bed, as the bug pictures are graphic!

You can also take pictures to someplace like Ace Hardware (or True Value) and ask for advice on killing off these bugs.

This is a list of products that will kill any type of cockroach:
Diatomaceous Earth
Baking Soda
Boric Acid
Borax
Here is a link/site that will provide instructions on how to use these products.

Bugs love plants so be sure to check all live plants and if you have artificial plants be sure to check the pot/styrofoam as bugs love this stuff.

Perhaps this is a cricket nymph
www.alamy.com/field-cricket-nymph-male-gryllus...

"Crickets can climb walls and other vertical surfaces with ease.
Sexually mature males "sing" to attract females which can "hear" the males through an ear like pit that is located on each front leg. Different species of crickets can be recognized by their different "calling" sounds. Although they make no noise, the females crawl around actively in order to locate singing males." trafficpestsolutions.com/.../crickets.html

I agree with WorlDA, this is a cockroach nymph.
This is a very young smokybrown cockroach nymph.

"The smokybrown cockroach is common outdoors, especially in the more humid areas of Texas and other southern states. They prefer living in protected, moist, warm sites, away from moving air. Common habitats are ground cover, mulch, palm fronds, soffits, eaves of attics, and tree holes. Smokybrown cockroaches reach maturity in an average of 600 days, and adults typically live 3 to 9 months." extensionentomology.tamu.edu/.../

The bugs in this question and in this question www.thriftyfun.com/Identifying-a-Small-Black-Bug-Found... are dark and they have two light stripes.

Oriental roaches are pale, tan-colored or brown when young. Oriental roaches are darker only when mature, but then they have wings. cockroachfacts.com/.../

From your pic it appears to be an Oriental cockroach:
www.earthkind.com/.../
The Oriental Cockroach is typically dark reddish-brown to black and about an inch long. They are attracted to shady, wet areas, preferring damp and dark spaces like basements, cellars, and crawlspaces. Although they are slow-moving on smooth surfaces such as vinyl floors, they have been known to climb up water pipes, air ducts, and garbage chutes to reach the upper levels of apartment buildings. These cockroaches can tolerate cooler temperatures, even surviving outdoors in temperate winters, but their choice climate is between 68 ' 84 degrees. This is evidenced by their seasonality as local populations tend to decrease in the winter months, then rapidly swell throughout the summer. You'll need an aggressive pest management approach when it comes to these types of cockroaches and how to get rid of them.
