The person I got him from told me he is a Pit Bull, but I'm really not sure what he is. He's about 5 months. I got him because the previous owners didn't want him anymore.

He looks as though he is a 3 part mix of Boxer, American Staffordshire Terrier (aka 'pit bull' although there is now an AKC recognised genuine American Pit Bull - and it is possible he is part APB instead of AST), and one of the hound breeds from the shape of his feet.
Use your favourite search engine image search using a term that includes the three breeds and the word 'mix' or 'cross' to see photos - I think you'll see what I mean.
I raised AKC Boxers in the US for over 40 years before retiring to my parents native UK. I also did breed rescue, and my cousin raised ASTs and did Staffie breed rescue - between the two of us we've seen many dogs of the cross I think I'm seeing in your dog. Check with a vet to be sure and to get up-to-date breed specific information you'll need to have one of these dogs in your home.
They make excellent family dogs but there are some things you need to be aware of.
For starters, these dogs all reach full maturity at around aged three years so you should expect puppy behaviours long past the usual 12 months to adulthood for most other breeds. Also, Boxers and Staffies are voracious chewers so you'll need to ensure he can't eat the sofa or door (happened to me at least twice over those 40 years!).
There's a lot more but let your vet be your guide - I could be wrong (I doubt it:) and it's always best to trust your vet first!
