I rescued this dog from an "unknown", but not ideal living situation. She is fearful and reactive, but she's progressing as trust builds. The people I got her from thought she was Boxer/Great pyrenees! of all things. I believe she's half Boxer, but the other half? Rhodesian Ridgeback, Lab, and bully breed have been suggested. I am only curious due to specific traits of some breeds, and though I would never give her up, it'd be good to have a game plan for some of those intrinsic traits!

Question: Is her mouth black inside? If yes she is most likely a black mouth cur--better known as an Old Yeller dog. Old Yeller was NOT a yellow Lab. There is much info on the web about these beautiful dogs. Most common in the south but after Katrina some have been relocated to other parts of the USA.
I owed one and she was an "open the car door and you get out" dog. I rescued her from being shot because the house she slept under did not want her either. Duchess was the gentle black mouth. Some are very protective as you saw in the movie but they are very loyal to those in their pack.
