What Breed Is My Dog?

What Breed Is My Dog? - beautiful white puppyI got Milo about a month ago. They said he was a Siberian Husky, but I have my doubts. I think he's mixed lol. Don't get me wrong he's absolutely beautiful. I can't get over him, but I would like to get some opinions (:

This is a beautiful dog and he does look like a Siberian Husky. However, looks can fool us. If you really want to know if he is full blood or not I would suggest doing one of the following.

Step 1
Make an appointment with your local vet for his set of shots. He needs them to protect him against the Parvovirus.

Step 2
While at the vet's ask if they do a DNA test.

Step 3
If they do the test find out the cost before allowing your vet to do the test. Some vet's charges for this test are quite expensive.

Step 4
If the test was too expensive at the vet's go online to Amazon and order your own home test kit.

Step 5
Do the test yourself at home. This will ease your mind and tell you if your dog is a full blood or a mixed blood.

"Pure bred" (and not so pure) Siberian Huskies are usually pretty expensive with even back yard sellers asking $150 or more. Even a mixed pup that has good characteristics will sell for that so the amount you paid may give some indication. Of course, if the pup was really pure bred you would most likely have gotten papers and paid a higher sum.

  • This is a handsome dog so I'm sure you are just asking out of curiosity as I do not think any dog lover would be disappointed with this dog.
  • You should be taking him to the vet for his health check-up and shots/vaccinations soon so you can always ask the vet for their opinion. They will have a more educated guess than some of us with just seeing his photo.
  • DNA tests are popular but still cost between $50 - $250 so that is something to think about.
  • DNA test kits can be purchased from pet stores, on-line (Amazon, PetSmart, eBay, etc) or from your vet.
  • Here is a link that explains about the DNA test and also a sample link to a kit for sale.

Since you have a young puppy you may not be aware of how important their first year shots and vaccinations are. Here is a link that explains what to have done his first year.
