What Breed Is My Dog?

We got Leia from the shelter when she was about 3 months old, she is now about 6 months old. She has grown a little bit, however is not as big as we expected her to be. Her ears are usually bend over, but when she's excited or alert, they stand up. She likes to dig and chase lizards, but is generally quite calm for a puppy.

When she is waiting for us to throw a ball, she lowers her head and is totally focused on the object. We've been told she could have Australian Cattle Dog or Heeler in her, with some Bull Arab, Staffy, Kelpie, or Jack Russell. Any ideas what she could be?dog lying on dog bed

I raised AKC Boxers in the US 40+years, my cousin raised American Staffordshire Terriers, and we both did breed rescue - I've never seen a better example of a Boxer-Staffie cross in all my years of breed rescue.

Talk to your vet, and do an image search online using the two breed names and the word 'mix' or 'cross' and you'll see what I mean.

Be sure to study up on the two breed characteristics to ensure a long and happy life together. These dogs expect to work for their living, and if raised properly (including a dedicated training session at least three times a week in the back garden), make outstanding family dogs.

However! You need to work with your vet and local authorities as the two breeds, and mix-crosses of the two, have been designated 'dangerous dogs' in many US (and here in the UK where I now live).

There may be laws in your area regarding fencing, lead-leash-muzzle laws when in public or around 'vulnerable' people like children under 16, the elderly and the infirm. You may be required to have specialised insurance, certificates proving the dog has been through behaviour and obedience training, and you may have a number of other restrictions you need to be aware of.

If you decide this is not something you're able to provide I beg you to contact a rehoming-rescue group (Internet or your vet's office) to turn the dog over so a proper home can be found.
