Question: What Breed Is My New Puppy?

This is our new puppy, Caleb. My family and I were originally looking for a medium-large, intelligent, and elegant dog that would be a good protector yet a family dog, a German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, etc. We searched our local shelters for several months before Caleb came along. We were originally told that he was a 3 month old German Shepherd mix. When we went to see him, the shelter told us that he was actually 2 months old. He was so cute, and we thought he fit our criteria so we adopted him on the spot. A few days later when we took him to the vet, I asked the vet what breeds he thought Caleb might be.

He said that he didn't think Caleb was a German Shepherd at all rather a Chihuahua and Dachshund mix. Needless to say we were a little disappointed, but he is so cute and loving that my family and I are hooked. People keep asking us what breed he is, and several people have commented on how large his paws are. Caleb weights 8 lbs and measures about 8.5 in. at the shoulders with 2.25 in. paws (in length). He has brown eyes, seems very intelligent, and is very much a lap dog. We would really like to know what kind of mix Caleb is so that we know what to expect and can give him the proper training. Any ideas?
