What Breed Is Our Dog?

What Breed Is Our Dog? - black and white dog on car seatThis is a picture of our foster dog. We're not quite sure of his breed as he's a rescue. We've been told he is a possible Border Collie/Lab mix, but so many people say he looks like a Pit Bull. What do you think?

Looks like my late beloved Gracie, she was a Pitbull Border Collie Mix.
Great combination! Super smart, loving and loyal, obedient, playful and all around wonderful temperament. You are very fortunate, he looks like a Gem!

My first guess was collie bull.

Check out this search and you can see lots of collie bulls look like yours:

I know you are looking forward to having this beauty with you 24/7.

  • It is possible the owner of this dog has some knowledge of his mix but then again, they may not know for sure but need to tell you something(?).

  • You may want to invest in a DNA test so you will have a better knowledge of any potential health problems he may have later in life. That information would also give you a better idea about his growth pattern and any type of training he may need.
  • DNA test kits can now be purchased from your vet, at most pet stores, farm supply stores, many Walmart or Ace Hardware type stores as well as online.
  • The cost runs from $40 to over $200 according to the extent you wish to check.
  • Here is information on DNA tests:
  • I do not know how old your new friend happens to be but if he does not have all of his shots/vaccinations then that is a very important "first order of business" step to take with your pup.

He was a rescue. He came to us from an awesome organization. He was delivered with all of his shots, was neutered, heartworm tested, and microchipped! He's about 16 months old now. He came to us with a lot of behavioural issues (luckily no aggression) and has been in obedience class.

He's come a long way, and is an awesome dog regardless of what breed he really is. I agree, and will be looking into DNA testing just to help head off any possible future health issues. Thank you for your answer!
