What Breed is My Dog?

We are trying to figure out what breed Rocky is; he is now 2.5 years old, 70-72 lbs. He is very loyal and loving to his family but not so trusting with others. He does not bark without a reason. He is very alert and curious about his surroundings. He loves to play, chasing the ball in the park. When going for a hike, discovering a new interesting trail is one of his favorite things.

He is very task oriented; ever since he was a puppy he loves to make "toys" out of objects like empty plastic bottles, tree branches, you name it. He carries them around during the walk, then leaves them. At the end of the walk he some how locates "the toy of the day" and carries it proudly home (like a trophy).

With some new food treats, he will first play with it, rolling it around the floor, teasing it, throwing it up in the air, and chasing it around as it rolls, until it's time to eat it. He also loves to play "hide and find the toy" he will not rest until he has located the hidden toy. He loves to chase squirrels, scare the geese, and swim after ducks. He loves to go to the beach, play in the water, jump into the waves, and dig holes into the sand.

He is opinionated, and can be very stubborn. He keeps himself extremely clean, no matter what time of the year it is. He is very intelligent and at the same time very stubborn, so working with him and and watching him grow from a cute little serious pup into a wonderful quite large dog has taken lots of consistency and patience and yet he has always been such a pleasure to work with. So long story short, what breed is my dog?
