We picked up Gilbert from the pound 2 weeks ago. The pound told us he was 10 months and a Chihuahua mix, though they said he'd been brought in as a stray, so I think it was a guess on their part. He is skinny with very long legs and big ears. He often looks like a flying fox (bat). He has a long tail and wiry hair down his back, particularly along the middle, which can make him look like he has a mullet or a punk haircut! When we got him we took him to the vet and he weighed only 5lbs, though we had to worm him and he has now put on more weight and muscle.
He is a loving dog who always wants attention or a knee to sit on. He jumps about a lot at home on his long legs. He's inquisitive and will stop on walks to watch people along the road, but is also confident at approaching people and other dogs. So far he has been very quick to learn bathroom rules and basic training.
We bought him a coat and his length (back of neck to base of tail) is currently 11 inches. I have had a couple of people suggest dog breeds he looks like: Chihuahua, Italian Greyhound, miniature Pinscher, or Formosan Mountain dog.
Any ideas?
