I found this while hiking, but have no idea what it is. It's driving me nuts. It has what appears to be electric wires attached. It was near a cattle farm, could also have something to do with heavy equipment. I even thought about predator control. I have no idea? Anyone?

It looks like it might be part of a septic tank system. If you have a plumber friend, show it to him/her to confirm.
You could send the picture to the wildlife director of your vicinity. If it has something to do with animal control, they would know.
Stab in the dark, I'd say perhaps part of an electric fence. You might try asking some detectorists, such as at tinyurl.com/
It may be part of a sensor that would be connected to other wires buried in the ground that sends off alerts when within range of ones property for control of animals and predators . Often connected to other wires and fencing.
What does the underside look like ?
I have no clue about this one.
If it is related to farming in any way, you can ask your question here and someone will identify it.

How big is it? It looks like at least as big as your shoe
Is it metal? It looks like aluminum but not sure. In any event aluminum is not a good electricity conductor so if it is, it's probably not an electric fence or other such thing
Was it buried?
How old does it look? Judging from appearances, it looks at least like it's been in the ground for 20+ years.
Where were you hiking? If you were in, say, Nevada, you can find out what sorts of things are used there.
