My mom gave me a cutting of this plant, which apparently was my great grandfather's. It started off as one big leaf, but now has put off the long dangly leaves. We have no idea what it is. I figured out the hard way that it does not like much sun, but would like to know what plant it is so that I can better care for it. Thanks!

Looks like some kind of cactus. I have one, but also don't know what kind it is.
It looks like a member of the cactus family called a Night Blooming Cerius or maybe Serius( I can't remember how to spell it). If you allow it to get very large it will bloom in late August with a huge, fragrant white and pinkish blossom that blooms only once at night and fades by the morning.
This looks like a night blooming cersus.will bloom when older and at night.
yes it looks like the Snake plant. First of all it likes to grow tall, and it can't in that spot. It doesn't mind drying out a little, everytime you give it water allow the excess to drain off as the plant will rot. Hates cold drafts and its not happy in bright direct light so not on the windowsills. Re-pot in the spring.
