Does anyone know what I have here? I want to know how to treat it better.

It's hard to tell because it's in poor condition and has few leaves. Take it to any garden center or cooperative extension center. They have helped me several times.
It almost looks like several small avocado trees.
It resembles a rubber plant to me but it is difficult to identify without a closeup of the leaves.
Maybe you could try looking at some of these photos:
Looks like a magnolia leaf to me
It's alive!! I was going to toss it and use the pot for something else but my girlfriend had too much hope for the plant which she named cool-dude. It is growing new leaves and it's alive!!! I will take pictures when I get home.
This looks like a ficus species. People often call them rubber trees/plants.
