Last week, I was given temporary custody of this guy while a co-worker is on vacation. This plant has bloomed several times over the past couple of months (little white flowers) and now all the leaves are falling off! Even the little babies seem to be dying now. A gentle touch makes them pop right off.
How can I fix this poor, sad plant and restore it to its former glory?

I'm not sure you can save this fellow but here is some information:
I believe your plant belongs to the begonia family but saying that is only the beginning as there are over 1500 different plants in this species.
I think yours may be a tuberous Begonia but the exact name would have to come from seeing it. Here are some photos of a few begonias in that category:
