I found this plant at the transfer station today. Someone had thrown it in the dumpster with no pot and the roots exposed. I rescued it, brought it home and potted it. (Pretty much all of my houseplants are "rescues" of some sort- I call myself the orphaned plant lady!)
I have no idea what it is, it seems fairly healthy with a couple of new leaves emerging from these reddish hollow tube-like things. The leaf stems are very thick reddish-brown and flat on the up-facing side and rounded underneath. The leaves themselves are very large, about 8-10" long and half as wide.

It looks a bit like a caladium. There are different varieties. Some with more purple leaves but there are some that are pretty green too.
