I received this plant from a couple when they were moving. I've never seen one before. I want to know what it is so I can take care of it the way it wants to be taken care of! How much water/light?

It looks like a type of philodendron, also known as a Swiss cheese plant.
This is an unusual plant and it is called Monstera adansonii or Swiss Cheese Vine" but I do not believe it is in the philodendron family.
Here is a link to a photo of your plant (wait a few seconds for a single image to appear) and a link to tell you how to take care of your plant.
The way it cascades down makes me think it is a vine plant.
