It kind of looks like a Confederate Jasmine. If so, water it once or twice weekly. Provide enough water to thoroughly moisten the soil to a 6- to 8-inch depth.

I agree, it does resemble a Confederate Jasmine, but the flowers are considerably larger on the Jasmine, and the clusters are not similar (unless there are several different strains?) Thank you very much for your response though!

It could be a coral berry. It likes bright, but not direct sunlight. Not too hot or cold, water evenly and fertilize regularly.

Again I agree that it does resemble the plant that you mentioned also, except for the berries. I thank you for your response!

I'm not sure but I believe your plant is in the Japonica family and may be a Skimmia Japonica (there may be more than one type of even this). You do not say what color berries but this plant has small white flowers that turn into red berries.

Take a look at this type and see if it looks similar to yours.

Hi Cybergrannie! I uploaded 3 more images that may help. You may be right on your suggestion, but I just got the plant so I do not know what color the berries will be yet. After looking at the new photos, do you still think it is a skimmer?

I still believe your plant is in the Japonica family but may not be the skimmia as your photo of the flower is compact and looks like the skimmia has more distinct petals. But as I stated in the first answer, there are several different plants even in the Skimmia series (even male and female) so you may have to look for photos of your flower to try and determine the true name.

I try to identify a plant by the leaf first and your plant does have a Japonica leaf. Your plant is an older very mature plant so it is difficult to go by the plant stems as most photos will be of new stock and difficult to find a photo of the stems. i do not have this plant so I can only go by research but I have some very good plant books and will look for a few more photos.

This link has one good photo (near the end of the article).

Thank you so much! I am going to go with your suggestion and take care of the plant as a Japonica, and will do some diligent research on the skimmia variety and see if I can narrow it down even more. Again, thank you!
