Hi there. We have this growing on two plants in our natural area. Are they a bug egg sack or something else. I tried looking and have not found an answer yet. Located in Wilmington NC

I think these are galls.
"Galls are abnormal plant growths caused by insects, mites, nematodes, fungi, bacteria and viruses. Galls can be caused by feeding or egg-laying of insects and mites. Insect galls rarely affect plant health and their numbers vary from season to season.
Once galls start to form, it is too late for treatment, as the galls protect the insects or mites.
For insects or mites that spend the winter on the host plant, apply horticultural oil before insect activity begins in the spring." extension.umn.edu/
The best source to answer is your Cooperative Extension. They have master gardeners. You can also take the picture to your local garden center.
I'm not sure because this looks like several different types of growths and it could be from a fungus.
You have good pictures, so ask your question on your local extension site and they can provide an answer immediately. They will also be able to tell you what you have to do to get them off your plants.
