I was given this plant by a friend. Despite trying to figure out what it is, I haven't been able to identify it. Can anyone tell me what it is so I can learn how to care for it properly?

Your Schefflera Plant does appear very leggy but you can prune it and then maybe try to furnish more indirect brighter lighting.
- Here are some care instructions from nursery sites:
- Schefflera houseplants do well in medium light, but grow faster and develop more leaves in "bright indirect light".
- Shorten long shoots by up to two-thirds, but make sure to cut above leaf buds when trimming.
- Pruning Your schefflera may also need to be pruned occasionally, especially if it is not getting quite enough light. Pruning a schefflera is simple. Just cut off what you feel is overgrown or leggy back to a size or shape you like. Schefflera houseplants rebound quickly from pruning and will look even fuller and more lush shortly after pruning.
- Here are links to some nursery sites that have very good care instructions so pick your favorite.

It looks like a schleffera plant. It likes indirect light and weekly watering.

Thanks for the info!! The plant looks somewhat leggy to me compared to other pictures of the same type of plant... Do you know if it's a pruning issue or possibly inadequate lighting?

Mine does very well in direct light but of course requires a great deal more water (twice a week). Pinching off new growth certainly helps.
