I found this poor deceased, probably juvenile, snake near boulders and vines in the yard. I wonder why it died and what kind of snake it is. It is approximately 8 inches long. I live in northeastern Ohio near the Chagrin River. Thank you.

It is alarming that it died. Possibly people are spraying poisons and pesticides in your area, or that river you mention is poisoned. When animals randomly die like that you need to be extra careful for your health.
