What kind of bug is this? It's very hard and was on floor not flying and is 1/2 to 3/4 inches long.

This one looks like a click beetle. Look up images of click beetles on google images or check out Wikipedia. en.wikipedia.org/
I have held them and it feels incredibly strange when held in the hand, lol.
Yikes! Yuck!! I agree it does look like one of the thousands of click beetle varieties. Maybe the Pyrophorus if it glows (like a lightening bug) or flashes when it flies. They are super creepy!
The best way to prevent them is to get rid of dead trees and dead ground cover around your property, which the love (no matter what kind of click it is). That is the food of the gods to them!
If you just have one, it is probably a lost one...if you have more, be sure to close up any holes in your foundation, around your windows, and doors to discourage them from coming inside.
Most of these critters can bite, but usually don't...still...avoid handling them just in case!
It looks like a the roach variety. I can't stand them. the are smart and know when you are there.
A hard shelled beetle.
Sure looks like a click beetle and they have a hard under shell.
It seems they are attracted to light and yours probably came in when a door was opened but you may have cracks under doors or windows.
These are really outdoor bugs so you might want to take a look at what they like to eat and their major habitat to see if you need to do anything for cleanup in your yard.
