What Type Of Fly Is This?

A dead insect in a glass dish.Hi all, I get around 2-3 of these flies every night in the house. I only see them in the evenings and they disappear in the day. I'm trying to establish what type of fly this is so that I can find a way to get rid of them. I've tried a UV light fly trap but the buggers haven't gone near them. Can anybody help please? They are driving me nuts! Many thanks in advance.

Mike, your photos don't enlarge clearly, so if you could post better ones, it would help. Also, try taking the flies to an ACE or TRUE VALUE hardware store, or even a garden center to see if they know what they are and what to do/use to get rid of the problem. Good luck.

Try taking a couple more pictures and either take one of the dead bugs or the pictures to your local Ace or True Value store (they are always free to help you) but they will only provide information on what the bug could be and what product to kill them. They may be able to provide suggestions on how to keep them out of your house. They must either live in your house (and hide during the day) or they're coming in from somewhere (for a reason).

I would also suggest sending your pictures to several of these sites as they know what local bugs are swarming right now.
They will be able to offer suggestions on how to get rid of the bugs for good.

I think this is a night butterfly/moth with folded wings.

I'm not sure if the top photo is a Stone Fly, but I do think the lower photo of the long bug is a Stone Fly. Stone Fly's nymphs are an aquatic insect in it's larval stage. As they hatch out into winged adults, they swarm and only live a few days.

They do not bite and are only attracted to buildings by lights on/in the building. Trout and other fish LOVE them. I don't think there is any "treatment" for them other than keeping outside lights OFF at night.

You might want to put one in a ziplock & take it to your nearest extension office:
