here in Southern Ontario it is called a "Stawflower" There are several different varieties.
Strawflower---If you cut them before they are fully open and dry them, thet are great fot crafts.
It looks like a dwarf zinnia to me!
Sometimes these are called "everlastings" too. There is a botanical name as well, but I can't recall it. Perhaps you could google strawflowers and see what comes up?
I googled it -- Helichrysum is another name, but strawflower is what most people call them.

It looks like an aster. I have a purple aster in my backyard. It's Native to this area - so it will grow anywhere. The flowers on my plant look nothing like the asters I buy from nurserys - it makes me think it's a different variety.
It is a strawflower, or helichrysum is the botantical name. I used to raise them in VT.
Strawflower-- They are very hardy and I have them in my garden even after many frosts they still survive. They close up at night and reopen the next light of day.
