Can anyone identify this shrub? It has oval shaped maroon/burgundy colored leaves and is about 4 feet tall. It is currently planted in a partly shady spot in very wet, clay soil. This may be why it is sparse and not full. I would like to move it to a full sun location in soil with no clay. I need some advice. Thank you in advance for all replies.

It looks like a young Lagerstroemia- Better known as a Black Diamond shell pink Crape Myrtle. This is a young one , the foliage is a rich deep burgandy color and produces pink or white flowers. Because this is a young one, it may take 3 to 5 years to flower.
If no one here knows send the pictures to your local cooperative extension center.
Hello !
I think it could also be a Cotinus coggygria, possibly it is the royal purple type. There are different types of Cotinus coggygria, some are american native some are european and China native, but it's been many centuries since the european types also grow in America.
