I was wondering what plant this? This is the first time that it's grown by our yard in the 10+ years that we've lived here. If it helps I live in PA.

This is called- Carex Grayi or better known as Grays Sedge, Mace Sedge, or Morning Star. This is in the Ornamental grass family. Here is more info - www.gardenia.net/

I had some of this several years ago when I had a pond and it did well in a wet home.
I could not remember the name so I ask a friend who still has some of this plant and she said it had many names but her mother had always called it "Bur Sedge".
This is Bur Sedge. It grows well along ponds and streams, where the soil is consistently moist. It grows in zones 3-9, and flowers May-July depending on zone. For more info, go to: www.prairienursery.com/
