Wheel locks are to help prevent or delay thieves from attempting to steal your tires or rims. It also provides a little sense of security, especially if you just purchased new tires or expensive rims.
Having wheel locks will take thieves a little longer to steal, because a wheel lock requires a special key to open, whereas the lug nuts on your car right now are universal and anyone can remove them.
But note: Even with wheel locks, thieves can still steal car tires if they wanted.
When you buy a set of wheel locks, it comes with four and a key. You will just remove one lug nut and replace with a wheel lock per each tire. Do not lose the key and put it in a safe place, incase you get a flat or need to get your tires rotated or balanced. You will have to provide that key to the tire center so they will be able to remove the wheel lock.
The photo shown is an example of my car. The pink arrow indicates the one with the wheel lock. It looks slightly different than the rest of the lug nuts. I purchased this set from my dealership for about $50.
