Sorry, I don't know about Gimp. I have the perfect stuff for insect bites! My granddaughter got bit by a wasp. She was screaming bloody murder! I put this stuff on and she stopped instantly. It works on all insect bites that I have put it on. I swear by it! It is called, AfterBite, made by Tender Corp. I buy mine at Walgreens and at Walmart. It's about the size of a Tide to go pen that I carry in my purse. It is amazing stuff! Good luck!
G.IM.P originated in Emporia Kansas. It was great antiseptic and anti itch. Also great for healing canker sores. I hAve not been able to find it in many years.
G.I.M.P was invented by a pharmacist in Emporia Kansas and was even used by the New York Jets team. It was great for insect bites, all around anriseptic and especially canker sores.

Just for fun I Googled GIMP...a mainstay of my childhood in St. Louis. Had no idea it originated in Emporia, KS, my parents' home town.
Crazy question... I threw mine away a couple of years back and I was wondering what the ingredients say. I thought I read tincture of iodine but cant remember... it healed everything fast and I would like to find something similar
I HAVE A BOTTLE OF G I M P IT IS VERY OLD BUT STILL IS PARTIALLY FULL AND HAS THE LIST OF INGREDIENTS ON THE LABEL. i would like to buy some again.
The company that made it may still be around: Link Laboratories Inc

You could see if they could help! Post back what you find as it seems to be a super popular remedy!
I was born in Emporia, Kansas, and would like to purchase GIMP.
Link Labs said they would no longer make it. That was several years ago. Previously if you ordered it from them, they would make a batch and have it for awhile, but no more.
I too am from Emporia. Gee I have wondered where a bottle of that wonderful gold could be found. I still have a small bottle of that aromatic wonder.
I also would like to be part of a GIMP reunion as I am the granddaughter of the pharmacist that made it.
That comment was posted in July 2020, so recent but not very recent.
Would have interest in resurrection manufacturing and marketing this product but would like to have a more precise formula..would you have access to any old info?...would love to discuss...
The main ingredient of AfterBite is plain old ammonia. If you fill an empty bottle with NON SUDSY ammonia you'll get the same itch relief.
Hint: contact lens solution comes in just the right size squeeze bottle to use once it is empty.

I've used this for decades (literally), but I understand that the company is no longer going to make it.
I have a little bit i wish they still made it us it for since i was ten years old.
Back some time in the 1980's or 1990's I could not find G.I.M.P. at any store I called Link and I was told it was too expensive to get it approved and they were going to stop making it. I ordered 4 quarts of it. I guess my one brother's family has some left I used my quart but I do have what is left from my mom's and oldest brother's. It still seems to be just as effective as it ever was. I hope they are still in business and still make GIMP. It has always worked and I have never known of any side effects.
Would you like to sell some of your GIMP? Sounds like you have a couple quarts around

I grew up in Emporia and GIMP was always in our medicine cabinet. Wish I could get some or the formula. I'm certain it was endorsed by the New York Giants, not the Jets.
Right. It was the Giants football team. It said on the bottle it was the "official antiseptic..." I'll bet they needed a ton of it.
The original components as stated were Glycerin, Iodine, Menthol, and Phenol - GIMP. They may have changed slightly over the years, but the differences did not alter the appearance, texture, or smell. The glycerin is inactive and acts as the carrier for the active antiseptics - Iodine, Menthol, and Phenol. More recently the label says 1,2,3 propanetriol [glycerin], 1,2 propanediol [propylene glycol - antifreeze - similar to glycerin], hexahydrothymol [menthol], phenol, tincture of iodine [iodine dissolved in alcohol], 1,7,7 trimethylbicyclo (2,2,1)-2-heptanone [camphor],and alcohol 5.7% [solvent for iodine, menthol, and camphor]. It is not significantly different from its original formula and if one desired, it would be fairly easy to make it by the original formula for one's own home use. But for the limited market, there is no way the FDA's requirements could be met to sell outside the home. GIMP has gone the way of many beneficial products.
I have been looking for GIMP for years. Chemotherapy made my mouth break out in canker sores. I am now loosing all of my teeth. I desperately need to find some to use. Im from Kansas and actually worked in Emporia for Iowa Beef Packers IBP for awhile. If I had known that it was made in Emporia, and was going to disappear from the market place, I would have stocked up. There nothing else that works as well as GIMP. If anyone has any from yesteryear I would really appreciate being able to buy some. I had three more teeth pulled this week.
I can help. Not sure how this forum works, but if there's a way I can get your address securely I'll just mail it. Any ideas how to do that?

You can make your own GIMP. Use Campho-Phenique and add iodine to it. You can get both Campho-Phenique and iodine at Walmart.
