Octagon was a popular brand of bar laundry soap. However, it no longer being manufactured. It's expensive, but if you really need to own Octagon bar laundry soap, you can still purchase some here.
Fels-Naptha is still available and much cheaper so that could be an alternative. Here is a link on Amazon.

FELS-NAPTA is the same as Octagon. Color, smell and everything.

My Grandmother used this too.It reminds me so much of her.I washed with it when visiting her all the time.I miss her so much.That my mother brought me a bar of Colgate's Octagon All Purpose maybe 5 or 6 six years ago from a local department store.I'm going to see if they still carry it tomorrow.

I still have some and cut off small pieces because it last. I wish they would bring it back. My whole family used it. Cleared up acne and rashes , poison ivy .
Pine tar soap does the same thing. You can use it for all kinds of skin problems especially excema and psoriasis. I make it if anyone would like I can send a sample bar to try. They aren't pretty bars but they make up for it in other ways.

Can you put Fels Naptha in a blender to get it into powder form????
Breaking into small chunks will result in "grated" consistency, but you run the risk of soap becoming gooey due to blade friction. It is best to use finest grater (4 sided one), it has smaller grates and will result in finer soap, but still not a powder.
Fels-Naptha does not smell like Octagon! My mom used it to get stains out of clothing, and I followed her example. It worked great! I was considered the stain queen because Octagon would get stains out of everything!
Wish Colgate would bring it back -- EXACTLY as it had been made before.

Fels-napta soap is an old remedy to remove the odor of spit-up from
you clothes. Stain can be removed with laundry detergent. But odor sometimes lingers. Use Fels-naptha

It's been discontinued for years unfortunately. People compare it to Fels Naptha so you might try that instead.

I grew up with octagon soap it was used for practically everything bathing washing dishes washing your dishes your clothing best soap ever had in my life

Colgate had to discontinue making Octagon Soap as the feds no longer allowed phosphorus in soap.
When I spent summers in my mothers home town, my aunt had Ivory soap, did nothing to clean a young boy who spent his time watching steam locomotives move through town. When my grandmother passed away, they commented how soft her skin was, she always washed with Octagon soap.
Fells Naptha is not a substitute for Octagon soap. Octagon was great for healing poison Ivy, and my great aunt, God rest her soul, used it to wash her hair. She never had any gray and died in her mid-nineties.
I am stumped as to why there is no Octagon any longer. That stuff would burn a hole in your skin if you rubbed to much or too hard, but it GOT EVERYTHING CLEAN!
I didn't have a smell, per se. It was basically lard lye soap, and it's nothing like Fels-naptha. That stuff just sits on the cloth and does little or nothing.
