I had gone out of the house to the front to pick up my morning newspapers when lo and behold, straight down the sidewalk came 2 beautiful wild turkeys strutting along! I was quite near them. They allowed the photo, then moved to the neighbors and flew up on their roof. What a fantastic sight.
We live in the foothills and see various forms of wildlife often: opossums, raccoons, snakes, birds, lizards, and now turkeys. Well, how appropriate this week with Thanksgiving 2011 very near. It was a thrill for this observer of wildlife!

Check out these photos.
We discovered these prancing "toms" vying for the attention of 8 hens (who were not in the least interested) while strolling through our back yard. I guess April is their mating season?
I had to laugh when I looked out my window this morning to check the bird feeder and found three big turkeys enjoying the fallen bird seed. Guess it's been a long winter for everyone!
These wild turkeys think they own the road, on my way home from my son's one night it took me ten minutes to get them out of the way so I could continue on. I opened the window and yelled at them; they just took their time.
Pepper, our barn cat, has a habit of coming around our bird feeder to watch the birds. She is a young cat and her hunting skills are limited.
This is a flock of wild turkeys. The large birds were strutting around near the spring fed creek. They are content on the 40 acre property and wary of predators.
I looked out the kitchen window this morning and there were 5 or 6 huge wild turkeys under the pecan tree. I grabbed my camera and was able to get a picture of 4 of them. They quickly flew away.
I am a very lucky woman. This picture was taken this morning as I looked out my kitchen window. It is such fun to stand there doing my dishes and never knowing what is going to turn up to eat out in our backyard.
